Lance Liotta is a distinguished university professor in the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University (GMU). Before joining George Mason in 2005, he served at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as chief of the Laboratory of Pathology, chief of the Section of Tumor Invasion and Metastasis, and deputy director of intramural research and training.

He is internationally recognized for his pioneering work on cancer invasion and metastasis and for inventing analytical tools in laser microdissection, proteomics, biomarker discovery, and personalized therapy. Liotta has received the NIH Public Health Service Commissioned Corps Medal, the U.S. Surgeon General’s Medallion, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award, as well as the Dean’s Challenge Award and Lifetime Innovation Award from GMU. He is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biomedical Engineering.
