Dr. Robin McCarley is the Executive Director of the Fralin Life Sciences Institute and Professor of Chemistry at Virginia Tech, and Alumni Professor Emeritus at LSU.

McCarley’s pioneering discoveries in developing novel tools for medical imaging, diagnostics, and drug delivery have provided foundational knowledge crucial for commercialization and clinical use. His team has published 100+ refereed articles/chapters, and McCarley holds 14 awarded and pending patents. Myriad agency and foundation support facilitated his mentoring of 95 PhD, MS, and undergraduate students and postdoctoral associates, and 60 others in traineeship programs he led.

McCarley served as program director at the National Science Foundation, and chair/co-chair of Gordon Research Conferences. McCarley’s contributions have been recognized through numerous awards, including Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, Stanford University Top 2% Highly-cited Scientists, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Alumni Association Endowed Professor at LSU.
